Do I Have *IT?*
"It" is what the acting world calls the sparkle of Julia Roberts, the excitment of Jennifer Anniston and the humor of Bill Cosby. "It" is when an actress walks into the room and they are just so amazing you can't take your eyes off them. Everything they do is incredible, they are so full of life. When you walk into an audition or an interview, you want people to be awestruck before you even talk. You want them to think "this actor is going to be great on camera." Unfortunetly, not all of us have the almighty "it." It doesn't matter how passionate we are about a matter, it does not make us good at it. In fact, we are usually passionate about things we are horrible at. But this does not mean you cannot teach yourself to be the amazing, outgoing person that people want to stop on the street. This step will teach you to be as exciting as you can in everyday life.
Being Full of "It" is a Good Thing
The first part of this step is a dare. I dare you to call up your doctor or another professional you are aquainted with. This is not an appoinment booking kind of call, I mean a spur of the moment call. As soon as you finish reading this Step, find the number for your doctor's office and call it. When the front desk woman picks up, start rambling off topics. Acting is not just about memorization and lines, it's also about improv and throwing yourself out there. You can't be afraid to take a risk in the acting world, you have to do crazy things. After you have bored this poor woman to death, hang up the phone and think about what you just did. It took a lot of courage to do something so completly random, but it's not so bad once you get into it. Acting is like that. It's hard in the beginning, but it gets a lot better. Now that you have proven you are not afraid of a voice on the other end of the phone, try talking to other people you barely know. The new woman at work or at school, anyone. Strike up a conversation and act enthusiastic for every second of it. It gets easier and easier every time. You might even make a new friend out of it! So now you have proven you are not a scaredy-cat. Congratultions! If you feel you are ready to take on the world, click on step 2 and get cracking. If not, keep trying! Either way, you will get there soon enough.
