Convincing Your Parents
You want to act and you have always felt a calling for it. You understand this is what you were meant to do. There is only one problem, your parents. The reasons could go on forever. You are too young, your education is too important, I don't have time, you don't understand what a big deal this is, it cost's too much, etc. Arguing with them is not going to get you anywhere. They are right in a sense, and everything they are saying is true. But in order to convince them you have to have serious evidence to back up your statements.

You have to be very mature about the whole thing. Show them the child labor laws so they see you won't be working all the time. Plan out a budget for each step and stick to it. You have to be smart about it. Don't ask them about things as soon as they walk in the door from work, do it on a Sunday when they are relaxing. If you are serious, they will take you seriously. They only want what is best for you.

School Plays
Almost every school has a drama department, so it is fairly simple for kids and teens to get involved with theatre. Acting in school plays is a great way to get expirence. Drama teachers may also have a connection to the acting world, so make sure you talk to them. Building up a resume can be easy when you are in school. I strongly suggest that all kids and teens get involved with their school's drama department, it will do alot of good.

Being Taken Seriously
It is really hard to be taken seriously when you are young. People don't always respect that you are a person and should be treated like one. If someone is not listening to you because of your age, you can not let it effect you. It will not do you any good to be influenced by someone's age. A lot happens in this industry and you can't be afraid of older peope.

A Real Job
Acting is a real job, not a hobby. If you want to get involved in the entertainment world you have to treat this like a buisness. You have to have working papers saying that you can legally be able to work. You can not goof off, this has to be a big deal. You can be a kid but you have to understand that you may have to temporarily grow up to be able to handle a real job.

The Black Hole
Unfortunetly, the age group from 14-17 is called "the black hole." This is because actors between these ages can not work all day. They have to go to school and not have as much of a workload. This is why older actors (ages 18 and up) are paid to play younger then they are. This way there is more time on set. You can not be dicouraged by this though, it will be hard but you have to stick to it. I know you all can do it. Good luck!
