Finding the "Perfect" Agent
To find a respectable agent can be a challenge all in itself. There are so many scams out there that you have to be careful on where you look for one. The magazine "Ross Reports" has the best list of agents, and I would suggest looking there first. You can order it at www.backstage.com. If you don't want to buy it there are plenty of websites online that give you lists of agencies near you. I strongly recommend you look at www.sag.org, because there you will find the registered and actual agents that will not scam you.

When you have a list of agents near you, it's time to jump in and try to find one who will take you on. Take your headshots (stapled to your resume) and your cover letter and put both in a manilla envelope. You can send out as many as you want. You may prefer to only send out 10, but it would be a better idea to send out at least 50. Remember, there is very little chance these agents will call you in for an interview. You many get two responses out of 80. It's pure fact. It doesn't matter how good a person you are, the agents are not going to care.

Don't Wait, Be Productive!
Okay, so your "mass mailing" has been sent out and you are waiting at home for your big break. I strongly suggest that instead of sitting around you get up and do other things to achieve your goal. Every day, check online for new postings of casting calls. Try http://www.castingnotices.com. Always be looking for new oppertunitys to get involved in the acting world. Never settle, you might miss the one job that would have gotten you the role of a lifetime. Not very likely, but you have to keep going. I know, it stinks to be waiting and not getting anything back, just don't give up.

So You Got the Interview, But Now What?
Congratulations! An agent got your headshot and resume and wants an appointment to meet you! Now what?

Okay, so the first thing you want to do is make sure what the agent is going to expect from you when they get there. Do they want a monolouge? A cold reading? (By the way, a monolouge is sort of like a one-person play that lasts about 3-5 minutes.)Make sure you know what is going to be expected of you.

The rest is up to you, just be yourself and act outgoing and confident. Don't get intimidated, just stand up tall. You'll do fine.
